The Threshold of Efficacy
Low-level light therapy (LLLT) requires a specific dosage to trigger cellular responses. If the power output (irradiance in mW/cm²) is too low, the photons do not penetrate deep enough to reach the mitochondria in the fibroblasts. The clinical consensus for efficacy requires an irradiance of at least 10-30 mW/cm² over a 10-20 minute period to achieve a total dose of 10-50 J/cm².
